Short-term parking zones will be introduced almost across the board in Vienna in spring 2022. This means that personnel will also be needed – in addition to more parking sheriffs, more administrative staff will be needed.
Area-wide short-term parking sticker is fixed
Next spring, Vienna will become a “Parkpickerl” area – i.e. a short-stay parking zone with an exemption for residents in the respective districts. In the future, the corresponding area will be twice as large as before. This makes the increase of the personnel resources necessary, as the office of traffic city councillor Ulli Sima (SPÖ) stressed on Wednesday. This also has an impact on the budget.
Vienna needs more parksheriffs
For example, the number of staff in the municipal district offices will be increased. Also the organs of the parking supervision – thus the so-called Parksheriffs – become more. They also need uniforms and electronic equipment, it said. How many personswill be needed for the job is still open according to city hall. But in any case, suitable bases would have to be rented in Floridsdorf, Donaustadt and Wien-Liesing.
Legal department to be expanded
The legal department MA 65 is also being expanded. This is where, for example, the parking stickers for businesses are issued. Parking management in Vienna will also become more expensive as a result. For the year 2021, costs of around 8.6 million euros are estimated, for the year 2022 it will be 24.8 million euros, as stated in a corresponding municipal council resolution.
